Gel injection on face
Injecting gel is applied in order to remove deep furrows and bumps in the face (and sometimes in the body). Silicone gels (as page gels) were used for this purpose in the past. Since these gels have some side effects and also are non-absorbable and move under skin, their use is abolished nowadays and are just applied by restricted number of people. At the moment, the gels with less harmful effects are commonly used, all of which are absorbable and would not move under the skin.
Hyaluronic acid gels: Hyaluronic acid is one of the main proteins distributed widely throughout subcutaneous natural tissues, and so that the body knows it as an intrinsic protein after its subcutaneous injection. The body even can regenerate new capillaries and attach them to the normal tissues. One of the main problems related to these gels is their rapid absorption and losing their volumizing properties after months. These gels should be injected superficially, as a deep injection may lead to their absorption and loss. Due to this property, they can be used for removing superficial wrinkles on skin as the lasting lines round the eyes and radial lines on the lip line. Recently, some manufacturing factories have increased these gels’ maintenance by polymerizing the hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronic acid sensitization is 0.4%. It means that 4 in 1000 people may be sensitive to that.
Hydroxyapatite gels: These gels contain absorbable calcium compounds, which are merely injected deeply, otherwise may cause some side effects. Therefore, they are not recommended to be injected for removing superficial creases and should be used just for decreasing the deep lines or increasing the volume of some bumps. These gels have a higher maintenance rather than the hyaluronic acid gels.
Growth stimulating gels: A new group of gels is recently produced which is considered to have the ability to stimulate fibroblasts, which produce collagen for skin.
Collagen gels: As collagen is the main subcutaneous substance, this group of gels is one of the first gels are produced with cosmetic and therapeutic targets. These gels are normally derived from animals and hence, they are more probable to cause sensitivity.
Important notes: The hydroxyapatite gels are not allowed to be used for volumizing the lips. Injection of silicone gels as page gels should not be done in any place and with any route. To remove the contractile wrinkles as those of round the eyes, the causative factor should be firstly inhibited using the muscle dysport, otherwise, the gel would not provide the desired change. Injecting gel has no effects on horizontal contractile lines on forehead. The initial post injection inflammation is acceptable for some hours to some days after the operation and would be recovered spontaneously, so nothing should be done for that except accelerating its recovery by using some medicines. Administration of the drugs which interfere with the natural coagulation process in blood, including aspirin, ibuprofen, indomethacin, mefnamic acid, diclofenac, piroxicam, vitamin E and multi vitamins is forbidden from 10 days before to 4 days after the injection. Performing laser therapy is forbidden for some time on the injected sites.
